Location

No need to wear your busby, and you shouldn’t be called up for guard duty. As you visit one of Australia’s most strategic townships. Queenscliff - guardian of the entry to Port Phillip Bay. Why not visit Fort Queenscliff where you can find out all about Queenscliff’s maritime and military history? Located on the Bellarine Peninsula guarding Port Phillip Bay and only a short ferry ride from Sorrento is Queenscliff. A wonderful historic seaside town, only a ninety-minute drive from Melbourne. Surrounded by water on three sides you are guaranteed long stretches of coastline, with sandy beaches, cliffs and historic piers. Travel a short way further north to see the Black Lighthouse – constructed from bluestone and unique in Australia. For international travellers fly to Melbourne (Tullamarine) airport. From here you can rent a car or travel by bus to Queenscliff and the Bellarine Peninsula.

Food

Excite your tastebuds in Queenscliff with plenty of gourmet food options at restaurants and bars. Or simply enjoy a meat pie and an ice-cream at one of the many cafes and takeaways. If you are indulging in Takeaways then remember Australian’s speak a different form of English. A bucket of chips is about half a scoop of hot potato chips in a paper cup. A Chiko roll is loosely inspired by the Chinese Spring Roll, but nobody is really sure what is inside it (should be avoided by vegetarians just in case.) Of course, don’t forget to try a quintessential Australian Hamburger with beetroot. Ask nearly any Australian and they will tell you a hamburger isn’t complete without a slice or two of beetroot.
