Learn & Laugh – Kayaking Instruction, Ottawa River Kayaking

Discover the fun and thrills of whitewater kayaking whilst ensuring your own safety and the safety of others. We will make certain that you become a proficient whitewater kayaker with our two and five, day kayaking workshops. Receive the instructions and support you need to become an excellent kayaker. With options for ongoing practice and experience.

Relish the use of the fully equipped communal kitchen to create your next culinary masterpiece. All courses include your paddling equipment (kayak, skirt, paddle, lifejacket, helmet and wetsuit), certified kayak instructors, and river transportation. Meals and accommodations are not included in the course cost. What you should bring with you for the day Swimsuit, quick dry shorts, warm fleece/wool sweater, polypropylene/synthetic long sleeve shirt & tights/leggings (ie. long underwear), water sandals/shoes/socks for use in water (preferably nothing too bulky so that you can wear them inside your kayak), personal paddling gear you may already have, noseplugs (highly recommended for new kayakers!), sunscreen, bug repellent, towel, bag to carry wet gear to and from river. If you are camping you will also need to bring a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and torch.

Zip & Zoom – Rafting and ZipLines, Ottawa River Rafting

Zip and Zoom as you fly and plunge into a fabulous two-day adventure. Scream and surge as you descend by raft both channels of the Ottawa River, exploding out of high volume rapids, and surfing the whitewater. Hurtle over the five-metre Garvin's Chute waterfall, and risk life and limb on the Dragon’s Tongue and the Butcher’s Knife. Fly like an eagle as you test your aerial skills with two canyon ziplines and an outstanding Via Ferrata. Combine trekking and rock climbing as you traverse the side of the Coulonge River Gorge.

Spend the day rafting down both channels of the Ottawa River. Beginning at 8.30am and finishing at 4.30pm

Day 2 ZipLines and Via Ferrata
Your aerial adventure with Les Chutes Coulonge starts at 9:00am and will finish at 1.00pm

What you should bring with you for the day Rafting: All your mandatory safety equipment is provided for you. Therefore, all you need to bring with you are some personal items to help make your day even more enjoyable. We recommend that you bring a pair of shoes or sandals to wear on the river (they will get wet!), your swimsuit and/or shorts, sunscreen, water bottle, towel and a change of clothes. If you are joining us during the early spring (April & May), we highly recommend that you bring an extra fleece or wool sweater, fleece socks and running shoes (versus sandals) for extra thermal layering under your wetsuit. The day rafting also includes a riverside lunch and Complimentary après rafting beverage. Aerial Park - Les Chutes Coulonge: You will need to have closed toed footwear that can be securely fastened to your feet.  Long hair should be tied back, T-Shirts should be tucked in.

Jump & Joyride – Bungee & Rafting, Ottawa River Rafting

Push play – as you up the ante and the thrills on this fantastic two-day adventure. Plunge and surge as you descend by raft both channels of the Ottawa River, exploding out of high volume rapids, and surfing the whitewater. Hurtle over the five-metre Garvin's Chute waterfall, and risk life and limb on the Dragon’s Tongue and the Butcher’s Knife. Push Pause as you wait overnight – anticipation building - for a 200-foot bungee jump into a natural amphitheatre and aqua-blue spring-fed pool.

Stay on-site at the Auberge Esprit, choose to camp, stay in the hostel or rent a cabin. Enjoy the wilderness at your doorstep with access to canoeing, kayaking, swimming and volleyball. Relish the use of the fully equipped communal kitchen to create your next culinary masterpiece. Or travel from Ottawa - using the Esprit shuttle as this is where your bungee jumping will take place. Accommodation and cost of the shuttle a not included in the package.

Day 2 Bungee Jump
You can complete your jump with Great Canadian Bungee at any agreed time between 11am and 6pm. Just 20 minutes from downtown Ottawa.

Day 3 Farewell
7.00am – 9.00am Breakfast in the dining hall. Check out at 11.00am.

Between the towns of Waltham and Fort Coulonge, you will find our spectacular peninsula jutting into the waters of the Ottawa river. Although it is a wilderness experience and well off the beaten track, you can gain easy access by bus from either Pembroke or Fort Coulonge. There is also an Esprit shuttle available from Ottawa/Gatineau. Take some time-out from the sheer beauty of this natural environment to discover the history and cultural heritage of the Outaouais, the stories of the men and women who settled along these shores. The legends and narratives of the first people. The importance of the Ottawa river to all who have lived on this land, and its continuing importance today. Visit - the historic Félix-Gabriel-Marchand Bridge, the Coulonge Chutes historical and recreation area, and George Bryson House, to gain a sense of the colonial era history. For international travellers, you can fly to the Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport. From here you can catch our Esprit shuttle. Remember you are also eligible to use our ‘Green my Travel’ programme where Esprit will help to pay for any carbon offset you choose through MyClimate.org. Esprit will split the cost with you 50/50 up to a maximum of $20USD per person.

Food

The Auberge Esprit offers a full kitchen and the chance to cook all your old favourites, but whilst you are in Canada you should try out a few of the local favourites. In Quebec, you really have to try Poutine a delicious amalgam of fries, cheese and gravy. For something sweet try a BeaverTail, basically, a flattened doughnut missing the hole. It can be topped with any sweet sauce or sugar. Of course whilst in Canada, you also have to try some of the excellent varieties of Maple Syrup. Spread it liberally over your bacon, waffles or eggs.
