Mountain High – Cost Low – Mount Kenya – 5 Days Trekking

Find Success as you climb to the top of Africa’s second highest peak. Heat it up on this long-extinct volcano part of a designated UNESCO world heritage site. Enjoy lakes, glaciers, forests and mineral springs as you take in the eye-popping panoramic views. Spend 5 days conquering the mountain, with mostly easy walking terrain. Beware the vertical bog – which can range from moist to sticky depending on the weather. You will be sleeping in bunkhouses at each campsite so a tent is not necessary.

Day 1 Nairobi - Naromoru
Be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi and transfer to Naromoru arriving in time for lunch. Spend the rest of the day in preparation for the climb packing gear and taking a nature walk. Enjoy dinner and stay overnight at mountain lodge or banker house. (Lunch and Dinner provided)

Day 2 Nairobi - Meteorological Station 3-4 hrs, 10km, 400m ascent
Transfer to Naromoru Park Gate for registration and to start the climb. The going is easy and it’s a pleasant walk through the forest. About two thirds of the way up after the bridge there are good views down into the Northern Naromoru valley. End the day at the Meteorological station with dinner and stay overnight. Day 3 Meteorological Station - Mackinders Camp 5-6 hrs, 10km, 1200m ascent
Continue climbing uphill after 30 minutes, you will reach the end of the forest belt and enter the moorland. This is the vertical bog - conditions range from moist to sticky depending on when it last rained. Continue through until the going improves and you reach a fork overlooking Teleki Valley before reaching Mackinders Camp. Enjoy dinner and stay overnight at Mackinders Camp. Day 4 Mackinders Camp - Point Lenana - Met Station 8-10 hrs, 11km, 785m ascent
Start very early at 2 am in order to reach point Lenana and the summit for a spectacular sunrise at 6:30am. After sunrise, descend down to Mackinders Camp for breakfast, and then walk back to Meteorological Station for dinner and overnight stay.(Breakfast Lunch and Dinner provided)

Day 5 Meteorological Station – Naromoru - Nairobi 3hrs, 9km, 400m
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Naromoru Park Gate where you will connect with your transport back to Nairobi. (Breakfast and Lunch provided)

Day 1 Arrive Nairobi
Arrive in Nairobi where you will be met by our Representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day you are free to enjoy Nairobi and anticipate the safari adventure that starts the following day. Stay at The Nairobi Sarova Stanley Hotel.

Day 2 Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast meet your safari driver/guide and depart for Samburu Game Reserve. After lunch take a late afternoon wildlife drive, returning to the lodge for dinner. The lodge is set in the ravine forests on the Ewaso Nyiro River and guests can watch the wildlife drink at dawn and dusk from their own rooms. Overnight at Samburu Lodge(Full board). Day 3 Samburu National Reserve
Spend the day exploring this savagely beautiful, arid ecosystem. Famous for its endemic species like Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Oryx and Gerenuk, the river is a lifeline for the abundant wildlife. All meals shall be provided for at your lodge. Day 4 Samburu – Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast depart Samburu and descend into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive at your safari lodge for lunch. Afternoon wildlife drive through this diverse park famed for its greater and lesser flamingos, rhinos and waterbucks. Day 5 Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara Game Reserve
After a hearty breakfast, drive through Maasai country to Kenya’s number one game reserve, the Maasai Mara. Arrive for lunch at your lodge. Afternoon wildlife drive in search for the famous ''big five'' and various animals that roam the vast plains. Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge(Full board). Day 6 & 7 Full day in Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Breakfast at the camp. Full day wildlife drive exploring the magic of this unique and fascinating nature reserve, where the annual migration of wildebeest, zebras and antelopes takes place. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. You also have an option of visiting a local Maasai Village, to observe their traditions and culture. Dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge (Full board). Day 8 Maasai Mara – Isebania - Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast cross the border to the Serengeti National Park via the Isebania border driving through the vast plains. You will change vehicles at border point where you will get entry permits to Tanzania. Enjoy your picnic lunches and continue on a leisurely wildlife drive on this side of the park en route to the Lodge arriving late evening. Day 9 Full day in Serengeti National Park
Breakfast at the lodge. Morning and afternoon wildlife viewing in the Serengeti national park. The wildlife defines the Serengeti with countless zebra; buffalo, gazelle, wildebeest and other species making it their home. Here is the main stage for the great wildebeest migration, an awesome spectacle involving millions of animals. Lunch, dinner and Overnight at the Serengeti Seronera Wildlife Lodge(Full board). Day 10 Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater
Early morning wildlife viewing in the Serengeti followed by breakfast at the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge. Depart with picnic lunches on a wildlife viewing drive en route to Ngorongoro National Park. After lunch depart and continue to ascend to the exterior of the crater reaching its rim and here your first glimpse of what has often been referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” Dinner and overnight at the Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge (Full board). Day 11 Ngorongoro – Amboseli National Park
Breakfast at your safari lodge Then descend to the floor of the crater and have an experience of a lifetime, as you watch a multitude of African wildlife. The unique eco-system supports the delicate balance of predator and prey in the endless quest for survival. Ascend and drive to Arusha for lunch. Then proceed on to Namanga border point. Here you will change the vehicles and the driver guides before proceeding on to Amboseli National park. On arrival enjoy an evening wildlife drive in the park. Day 12 Amboseli National Park
With breathtaking views of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, here one will find excellent cuisine and luxurious rooms with en-suite bathrooms, built on the Masai village architecture. Day 13 Amboseli – Nairobi - Depart

Day 2 Maasai Mara
After breakfast proceed on a full day of wildlife viewing within the reserve. The landscape here is scenic savanna grassland on rolling hills. Enjoy the best wildlife viewing in Kenya with an extensive road and track network which allows for close range viewing and photography. Day 3 Masai Mara- Nakuru
Early morning pre-breakfast wildlife drive. After breakfast, depart the Mara region for Nakuru, with scenic views of Mt. Longmont and Lake Naivasha from the highway. Dinner and overnight at the Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Provided)

Day 4 Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha
After breakfast proceed on a wildlife drive in Lake Nakuru Park, known for its prolific birdlife including flamingoes. This park contains a sanctuary for the conservation of the white rhino while species like Cape buffalo and waterbuck can be seen near the shoreline. Drive to Naivasha – you have the option to choose a boat ride on this fresh water lake to see hippos and eagles at an extra cost . Dinner and overnight at Naivasha Hotel. Day 5 Abedare to Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast have a nature walk in the hell’s gate national park, largely a savanna ecosystem harbouring an extensive variety of wildlife. Some of the frequently observed animal species include lions, leopards, and cheetahs. There are over 100 species of birds in the park, including vultures, Verreaux's Eagles, augur buzzard, and swifts. African buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson's gazelle, and baboons are also common. The park is also home to klipspringer antelope and Chanler's mountain reedbuck. Within Hell's Gate is the Hells Gate Gorge, you will find a path that descends into the hot springs where you can find rocks that will burn you. Drive onwards to Amboseli national park dinner and overnight at the Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Provided)

Day 6 Amboseli Full day
A day of wildlife drives in this park which contains swamps in which elephants and hippos bathe in abundance. A variety of plains wildlife, antelopes and birds can also be seen. Return to overnight at the Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Provided)

Day 7 Amboseli – Arusha
Early morning wildlife viewing return to the camp for full breakfast journey across the border to Arusha via Namanga border point. Drop off at Arusha tourist inn. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Provided)

Day 8 Arusha – Lake Manyara
After breakfast drive to Lake Manyara National Park for an afternoon wildlife drive. Dinner and overnight at Manyara Wildlife Lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Provided)

Day 9 Lake Manyara – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast depart for Serengeti passing through Olduvai Gorge, the site where the Leakey family discovered fossils of human and animal ancestors dating back to almost two million years. Meals and overnight at Serengeti Katikati camp (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Provided)

Day 10 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast and final wildlife drive in Serengeti, enjoy picnic lunches and later drive to Ngorongoro conservation area. Overnight at the Ngorongoro wildlife lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Provided)

Day 11 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast descend 2000ft down to the crater, for wildlife viewing ,you will enjoy picnic lunches, and later drive to Arusha. End your safari in Arusha. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Provided)

Nairobi is a modern thriving city, with plenty of options for accommodation, including choices for all budgets. Accommodation ranges from backpackers through to luxury hotels with plenty in between. During your safari or adventure, accommodation will usually be provided - check the details of accommodation in the package information.

Location

Be hip and be cool, in a city named after a Maasai phrase Enkare Nyorobi meaning “the place of cool waters”. Chill out as you enjoy a red-hot adventure in the wildlife hot-spots of East Africa. Enjoy a city of contrasts, where the great melting-pot has created a uniquely Nairobian character, whilst also celebrating the cultures and histories of those who have come here. To gain a sense of Nairobi’s history visit the Nairobi National Museum, the National Railway Museum, and the Karen Blixen Museum. Nairobi is situated on the Nairobi river, right next door to the Nairobi National Park. For international flights, the main airport is JKIA Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Be aware that Nairobi suffers from terrible traffic jams so travelling by taxi or car can be problematic. From the airport to the city centre you can take Bus #34.

Food

Excellent meals will be provided on your Safari or Adventure. In Nairobi take advantage of the fabulous local restaurants offering a full range of cuisines. This includes a wide range of Indian restaurants you will also find restaurants specializing in European and Asian cuisines. If you have always wanted to try French haute cuisine but thought it was too expensive, then make sure you go to ‘Alan Bobbe's Bistro’. Enjoy a fabulous meal for half the Parisian price. If you want a real local taste sensation and don’t mind spending a bit more than the regular fare, then try ‘the carnivore’. In 2006, listed as one of the top 50 restaurants in the world, just outside the city and offering a fabulous selection of Masai grilled meats.
