Stand on the threshold between two worlds, two cultures and two oceans. Where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean meet you will find the last stop in Spain before you cross to Morocco. Tarifa a town whose very name is synonymous with the meeting of two cultures. Named after Tarif ibn Malik, who led a Muslim raid in AD 710, one year before the main invasion of the peninsula. Be drawn to Tarifa by the stiff Atlantic breeze that has made this town a wind-sports Mecca. Soon you will discover there is so much more than wind, golden beaches and great restaurants and cafes. This is a locale that can trace its history back to the Phoenicians and Romans. Explore Old Town Tarifa – stumble through narrow streets, with beautiful white houses and bright blue doors into typical Andalusian courtyards. To reach the spectacular town of Tarifa on the southernmost tip of Spain – you have several options. If you are flying, the nearest airport is Gibraltar, but you can also choose from Jerez, Malaga, and Sevilla. Be aware that Gibraltar is part of Great Britain so although it is only a 45-minute drive you will have to cross an international border. Remember it is reasonably easy to rent a car and drive in Spain, or else the bus services run regular buses to Tarifa.
Find fabulous restaurants selling tasty tapas and cheap house wines that taste expensive. Don’t forget to experience the best-ever tuna - caught daily off the coast of Tarifa it is the supreme taste sensation. Want something lighter than a full restaurant meal then select from an outstanding array of cafes with plenty of breakfast and lunch options, plus great coffee. For a truly epic local taste then make sure you sample the "Tortillas de camarón" shrimp fritters, or the “Ortiguillas de Mar” sea anemones.
