Upper Mustang Trekking Trekking

Explore the valleys around Mustang on this 14-day trek that wanders past cliffs, caves, gorges and rivers of Northern Nepal. As we explore near the Tibetan border we will unearth the local customs and culture by stopping at Kagbeni village, the Forbidden Kingdom, Lo Gekar Monastery and Kaligandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world.

On this trek, we'll be staying in hotels and guesthouses found along the trek route. There will also be some occasions where camping is an option. All accommodation has been tried and tested by our team over the years.

Day 1 - Kathmandu to Pokhara
This morning we will take the bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara which takes seven hours. Tonight we will be staying in a hotel.

Day 2 - Pokhara to Jomsom
This morning we will fly to Lonsom and begin our trek to Kagbein though Kaligandaki. This barren land is beautiful but brace for strong winds. Tonight we will sleep at a guest house.

Day 3 - Kagbeni to Chele
Today we’re heading to Chele via Chorten and Tangbe. Here we’ll stop for lunch before heading onwards.

Day 4 - Chele to Geling
Today the altitude starts to kick in as we walk through vast desert and barley fields.

Day 5 - Geling to Tsarang
Today we head upwards to Ghami, an inhabited village surrounded by barren fields. After we will visit the longest wall in Nepal before descending to Tsarang and overnighting in a guesthouse.

Day 6 - Tsarang to Lo Manthang
Today we’re walking at an elevation of 3810m towards the Lo border.

Day 7 - Lo manthang Exploration day
Today is a fun rest day where we’ll visit a monastery, temple and vegetable garden to learn about local culture. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 8 - Lo manthang to Choser village day trip
Today we’ll trek to the village of Choser. There’s also an option to ride here on horseback.

Day 9 - Lomanthang to Drakmar
Having reached Drakmar, we’ll descend to our guesthouse.

Day 10 - Drakmar to Shyangmochen
Today we’re trekking back down following the same route but will stop at the small village of Shyangbochen to visit an apple farm, orchard and monastery.

Day 11 - Syangbochen to Chhuksang
Today we will descend around 1100 metres through the valley of Kaligandaki until we arrive at Kagbeni.

Day 12 - Chhuksangt to Kagbeni
Today we’ll trek down to Kagbeni to exit the restricted zone of Upper Mustang.

Day 13 - Kagbeni to Jomsom
Today we take the same route back to Jomsom stopping at Kaligandaki and Saligram along the way.

Day 14 - Fly to Pokhara
Today we’ll fly back to Pokhara, transfer to your hotel and relax in the city.

Year round but Spring and Autumn are recommended.

Upper Mustang trekking is perfect for those who like to go on exploring unexplored places. The valleys around Mustang are dry and contain many cave dwellings, situated high up in the cliffs. You will stop at Kagbeni, an old village which is the entry point of Upper Mustang. It takes about five days to reach Lo Manthang from Kagbeni. The trail to Lo Manthang follows the banks of Kaligandaki River upstream. Pass after pass will be crossed in the journey to this forbidden kingdom. Lo Gekar Monastery said to have been built by the famous Guru Rinpoche, in the 8th century is located close to Dhakmar. The red colour of the wall is said to have been painted with the blood of a demon that Guru Rinpoche slaughtered at the location of the monastery.

On this 14 day excursion, you’ll be trekking through the Himalayas, past four of the worlds tallest mountains, through local villages and visiting the Tyangboche Monastery. If you've always wanted to see Mount Everest up close then this is the trek for you as the trip to base camp provides majestic views of the mountain face and surrounding landscape.

Day 1 - Arrive into Nepal
You’ll be transferred from Kathmandu airport to your hotel in town.

Day 2 - Kathmandu Guided Sightseeing tour
After breakfast we will begin exploring the town starting at Durbar Square, moving onto Monkey Temple and then visit the oldest Shiva Temple in South Asia.

Day 3 - Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding
Upon arriving in Lukla we will begin our first trek to Phakding, passing through Tamang and Sherpa villages as we go. The night will be spent at a Guest House.

Day 4 - Phakding to Namche Bazaar
Today we will trek for five hours to reach Namche Bazaar. En route you’ll have a glimpse of Everest, Amadablem and Themserku mountains. We will overnight at a local Guest House.

Day 5 - Rest day in Namche
Today is about acclimatizing but those who are feeling fit an healthy have the option to hike to the Everest View Hotel. We will overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 6 - Namche to Tyangboche
Today’s 5-hour trek reaches elevations of 3680 metres as we pass through the Khombu valley. Finally, we will ascend a further 800 metres to Tyangboche before spending the night in a guesthouse.

Day 7 - Tyangboche to Dingboche
Today you’ll get a great view of Mount Everest and get to visit the Tyand Boche monastery. After, descend through the Rhododendron forest and into the Chhukung valley. Spend the night at a guesthouse.

Day 8 - Dingboche to Lobuche
Today’s trek will feel quite slow as we’re at a super high altitude as we pass through Dhukla, Lobuche and Chorten. Spend the night at a guesthouse.

Day 9 - Lobuche to Gorekshep
Today is a shorter trek as you’re on the lap of the Himalayan range! You will arrive at Gorekshep base camp and spend the night at a guesthouse.

Day 10 - Gorekshep to Pheriche
We rise early today to catch the sunrise over Lhotse and Mt. Everest. After breakfast, we will trek to Pheriche before spending a night at a guesthouse.

Day 11 - Pheriche to Namche
Today we will trek through wide valleys, through Sherpa villages, past monasteries and along to Namche Bazar. Spend the night at a guesthouse.

Day 12 - Namche Bazar to Lukla
Today we will be trekking back over the same trails but the views are still admirable and even different. Spend the night at a guesthouse.

Day 13 - Fly back to Kathmandu
Today we will arrive back in Lukla and catch a flight back to Kathmandu where you can enjoy a wellness evening and a farewell dinner.

Day 14 - Last day in Kathmandu
Today you can enjoy your final breakfast in Nepal before transferring to Kathmandu Airport and heading home.

February - December

The scenery of the Lukla flight themselves-wont be the only thing to look forward to. You will also discover the Trans-Himalayan trade, in Khumjung and Namche Bazar village, and the Tyangboche Monastery. And its not all trekking and sightseeing, without an opportunity to rest your tired eyes and feet. Spend the night at a hotel and the 11 others at a charming teahouse, with two full days set aside for acclimatization to the altitude-So you can experience the peaks in peak condition.

Everest Panorama Trekking Trekking

This eight-day Upper Panorama Trek is one of GAT’s easier treks and is perfect for who are worried about their fitness levels as the walking conditions are easy. This trek climbs up to a maximum elevation of 3867m which is reached ad the ancient Buddhist monastery of Tyand Boche. From here we will enjoy vast panoramic views of Mount Everest and the surrounding mountains of Lhotse, Thamserku and Ama Dablam.

Day 1 - Kathmandu to Lukla
This morning we will fly to Lukla and begin trekking through the Tamang and Sherpa villages. We will overnight in Phakding.

Day 2 - Phakding to Manjo
Today we will begin to approach the Himalayas as we trek through pine forest to the Namche Bazar. En route we’ll have our first glimpse of Everest, Amadablem and Thamserku mountains.

Day 3 - Rest day in Namche
Today we will rest for acclimatisation. There is also an option to hike to the Everest Hotel to admire the views.

Day 4 - Namche to Sanasha
Today’s trek begins on a flat path and offers exceptional views of the surrounding mountains. We’ll descend to Phunke Tanga and then continue to overnight in Tyangboche.

Day 5 - Tyangboche to Khumjung
Today we’ll be at an elevation of 3830m as we trek back towards Sanasa and find the path to Khumjung. We will then reach the Hidden Valley where we’ll visit a monastery, school and aid post.

Day 6 - Khumjung to Namche
Today we’ll do around three hours of trekking back to the Namche Bazar until we reach Manjo for our overnight stop.

Day 7 - Manjo to Phakding
Today is another easy trek as we walk through villages, admire mountain views and hike past waterfalls. Tonight we’ll stay at a guesthouse in Lukla.

Day 8 - Lukla to Kathmandu
This morning we’ll fly back to Kathmandu where a car awaits to transfer you back to town.

March - June | September - December

Much shorter than the other Everest trekking and also a lot less difficult, the Everest easy and short trek is suitable for those who want to enjoy the magnificent views of the world highest peaks Mt Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and many other snowy peaks. The trekking route is relatively easier with good trails throughout. Also, the area is well supplied with teashops and lodges. The paths between these are well used and present easy walking conditions. The ascent possesses no real difficulty and anyone who is healthy and physically fit can make the Everest panorama trekking, although you will probably need to slow your pace once you reach 3000 meters.

About the location


On treks longer than one day you will stay at guesthouses, tea rooms and local hotels found along the trek route and the option for camping is available on particular treks. All accommodation has been tried and tested by our team regularly over the years.


All of our treks and activities take place in the jungles, mountains and rolling hills of Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet.


On treks longer than one day you will dine out at the guesthouse restaurants, local eateries or dine on food cooked by the porter. For day trips we recommend bringing a packed lunch and plenty of water.


Trek lengths vary in duration from one day hikes to two week excursions, each of which ranges in difficulty.
