Upper Mustang trekking is perfect for those who like to go on exploring unexplored places. The valleys around Mustang are dry and contain many cave dwellings, situated high up in the cliffs. You will stop at Kagbeni, an old village which is the entry point of Upper Mustang. It takes about five days to reach Lo Manthang from Kagbeni. The trail to Lo Manthang follows the banks of Kaligandaki River upstream. Pass after pass will be crossed in the journey to this forbidden kingdom. Lo Gekar Monastery said to have been built by the famous Guru Rinpoche, in the 8th century is located close to Dhakmar. The red colour of the wall is said to have been painted with the blood of a demon that Guru Rinpoche slaughtered at the location of the monastery.
