With pennies in his pocket and an overwhelming desire to offer the worlds greatest whitewater adventures. Jim Coffey took up the challenge that lay heavy on his heart. With just two small self-bailing rafts and the excellent rapids of the Ottawa River. Jim showed his courage and spirit by launching Esprit in 1992, knowing that he would be competing against much larger rafting companies. Jim soon realised that the nimbleness of his smaller rafts was a gift and that he could actually raft both channels of the Ottawa in a single day – literally doubling the fun. Today Esprit is still the only company rafting both channels of the Ottawa in a single day.Jim is not just an adventurer, he is also a philosopher at heart. He feels the need to behave with honour, dignity and integrity. He has been a vocal campaigner for social and environmental justice. Through the “I Speak for Canadian Rivers” campaign to being an ambassador for the Climate Project. Jim has made no secret of his love of the land and the rivers of the world. People matter to Jim and none more so than those who struggle with physical or neurological challenges. Jim has worked tirelessly to ensure that people from all walks of life can enjoy his beloved rivers. Under Jim’s leadership, the team at Esprit has opened their doors and hearts to those challenged by sight, hearing, mobility and neurology. Jim and his family are the founders of Whitewater Healing which works to share river experiences with those challenged by Autism. When you adventure with the team at Esprit you will find Jim’s values throughout every step of the way. Find the core of Esprit, and you will find a spirit of honour, valour, integrity and respect.
