General

Do not be a spectator, become part of a family. With these local family guides you will actually become part of an extended tribe. Meeting - cousins, in-laws, children, and grandparents. You will immerse yourself in the culture, customs and daily life of the local hill tribes. Visiting farms, orchards, holy sites, and areas of cultural importance. Sometimes the walking will be arduous. There is a high probability of mud and rain; yet the scenery, the friendships, the cultural experience will all be outstanding. Your guides will all speak English. Your accommodation will be in homestays, including marvellous meals with locals cooking by traditional means.

This is a family business, based on links that run deeply into the local communities and tribal groups. For Ko Kyaw, this also means a dedication to building a sustainable tourism industry for local people, whilst protecting and encouraging their traditions and culture. Ko Kyaw is devoted to the biodiversity of the Kalaw region and its preservation. Ko Kyaw and his entire family live and breath the air of Kalaw, they are totally engaged in its future.

What can I expect?

You will trek through high-value scenic landscapes with knowledgeable local guides, who speak English. Being part of a small group usually less than 10 you will experience quality time with your guide and other local people. You will be introduced to local culture and traditions in a family like setting, receiving quality meals cooked in traditional ways. You will be accommodated in homestays or local buildings such as monasteries, you will need to provide your own bedding and sleeping mats.
