About


General

Our expert hiking team safely leads tours for all ages and fitness levels. If you want to see wildlife, join us on the Lamar Valley Safari Hike. If geysers are your reason for visiting Yellowstone, the Lone Star Geyser Hike is the option for you. If you are looking for panoramic views, then the Bunsen Peak Hike is the way to go. Some clients choose all three hikes to see all that Yellowstone has to offer.

The owners

Yellowstone Hiking Guides owners/operators, Josh and Emily Jo Mahan, are Yellowstone locals who know the lay of the land as few others do. They are also professional international guides. They have led tours in Chile, Micronesia, and Costa Rica, as well as extensively in Yellowstone. They know how to cater to a traveler’s needs.
Josh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a Minor in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana. Emily Jo holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Broadcasting from Oklahoma State University. Josh is a Wilderness First Responder and Swiftwater Rescue technician. Emily Jo is an Emergency First Response instructor.

We offer you a trip off the beaten path!

What can I expect?

We offer daily tours of trekking between 3 and 7 miles in the area. For your comfort we provide transportation from Mammoth Hot Springs to the trailhead and back, bear spray, light backpack for your personal gear, trekking poles and two spotting scopes for the group.
We also provide gourmet lunch and breakfast snacks.

Knowledgeable and professional guidance from the owners.
Under Emily Jo’s watchful eye you will smell the wild roses as you never have before.
Josh has guided in Denali National Park, Glacier National Park, Olympic National Park, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Grand Tetons.
