Puerto Viejo

Most surfers head straight to Costa Rica’s Pacific and don’t even look twice at the Caribbean Coast. This is a big mistake since they miss out on one of the most epic surfing destinations in the country: Puerto Viejo de Talamanca.

Puerto Viejo’s Salsa Bravo break has been dubbed the most intense wave in Costa, mostly because it’s fast, steep, and powerful. Novice surfers should stay away from here, but there are a few nearby spots to learn the ropes before taking on the speedy barrels of Bravo.
