As mainland Europe’s westernmost destination, Peniche has direct exposure to the southwest Atlantic swells and northern winds. The surf here is year-round and basically always working, and surfers can take their pick from beach breaks, sandbar reefs, point breaks, lefts, rights, you name it.
Even the cold-ish water here doesn’t stop lifelong surfers and newbie wave riders from strapping on a wetsuit and hittin’ the waves. The town has its fair share of challenging breaks to choose from, like the perfect hollow Supertubos break, but there’s no shortage of soft beginner-friendly beach breaks, either.
